When it all changed for me:

6 figures in debt, and I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life.

December 31st, 2018. I won’t forget that day.

I’m getting ready to graduate from college. I’m feeling anxious about where life is going.

I was about to graduate with a business degree, and I’d specialized in Finance.

After landing a lucrative internship opportunity, I realized I’d rather pull my own teeth out than pursue that line of work.

I’m binging YouTube videos at my parents' place at midnight, and I see a bald guy with glasses pop up on my algorithm.

It was “Dave Ramsey.” The caption of the video was “I’m 29 years old with nearly $1,000,000 in debt.”

“That sucks,” I thought.

I watched the video through to the end, and I’d watched Dave coach this lady through that situation. It wasn’t going to be easy; however, if they did what he said, I knew they would overcome that test.

I wondered what my personal debt was. I went through and added it up, and looked at the final number on the calculator.

My breathing got really shallow, and suddenly I couldn’t think clearly.

My heart started beating really fast, and I felt like I might throw up.

It was over $105,000!

I was 23 years old with over $105,000 in consumer debt.

Here I was with 6 figures in debt and no idea what I wanted to do with my life.

I was getting ready to graduate with a degree I wasn’t even sure I’d use.

My thoughts:

What if my girlfriend breaks up with me?

What if I get stuck in some dead-end job for a decade?

I didn’t know what to do, so I did the only thing I could think of.

I prayed.

I suddenly felt a rush of peace.

I got the impression that God said that I would be out of this in under 2 years.

“How?” I thought.

I went back to Kelowna and told my girlfriend (now wife) what the situation was, and she asked me when we were getting married!

The amount of confidence that was instilled in me was insane.

I got a job while taking a few courses on “internet marketing.” I started a side hustle.

It was a small ad agency that I used to help gym and spa owners attract more clients.

I matched my full-time income at my job in 4 months. I quit the job.

I also decided to do Dave Ramsey’s baby steps.

Remember that thing about 2 years?

I married Julia, and was debt-free in 1 year and 11 months!

I landed a leadership position as the Marketing Director at a great company shortly after that.

I kept consulting on the side for a little while.

Fast forward to now, I’ve worked with over 60 businesses in North America and Europe.

I spend my days helping founder-led businesses adjust their brands, marketing strategies and align their teams as a fractional CMO.

I’ve got a great wife, a beautiful daughter, and our home is full of happiness.
